The summer writing intensive is a class specifically designed for middle school students to enhance their overall writing abilities; focusing on fluid syntax, grammar instruction, and writing structure. Students will explore both personal and analytical essays, as well as work on their ability to respond to short literary works through their writing. Analytical essay writing is perhaps the most important skill for success in English classes. This intensive will demystify the five-paragraph structure- focusing on writing a thoughtful and cohesive thesis statement, followed by adherence to the standard form, and an understanding of how to choose a good quote to dissect and analyze. Students will then learn the?tenets of what it means to write a personal essay filled with descriptive language, sensory imagery, and literary devices. Moreover, students will experiment with a variety of creative styles of writing such as poetry, fiction, and flash fiction.?
